Your Cajun Cafe is absolutely wonderful and we love that band The Porch Dogs.  My girlfriend, Sherrie, gets up out of her seat and plays the washboard with them.  It's always such a great time.  Thank you.

Hello,
My husband and I were down in Sanibel last week on our honeymoon-we flew in and out of Tampa.  He had told me that he was dying to have some authentic Cajun food-I searched the Web and I found you.  Love your website and menu-tons of great info online!  We loved it so much, we ate there on the way in and the way out!!
Thanks again for the wonderful food and great cold brews!

Hello, My Buddy and I attended the beer tasting at Cajun Café on Saturday 03Nov.  We had a great time.  We didn't think we would encounter many beers that we had not tasted before, but we were very surprised and excited to be able to taste many new brews as well as many old favorites. We particularly liked the Left hand Milk Stout on tap (we had only had it in bottles previously) and personally named that the best beer of the tasting. We also enjoyed the Fuller's Vintage Ale, the new Shipyard pale ales, the Dunedin Imperial Pilsner, and having the Dunedin Brewers Guild offer some homebrews.  We even scored some great swag from Yuengling Brewery. We will definitely return next year and hope you plan on having this tasting again. Thanks, Gary Tremer

Hi Rebecca and Paul!

We have recently returned home from a wonderful vacation in Tampa.
Dining at your restaurant was one of the highlights of our vacation.  We
enjoyed it so much that we made it a point to come twice within our nine
day stay in Tampa. We can still savour your crawfish cornbread and whiskey
bread pudding. I am sure your chef, along with your waiter, Stu, will remember
my boys---they devoured everything on their plates!!!
Thank you, Paul, for giving us a tour of your restaurant.  Hopefully, one day we
will be able to enjoy one of the shows.

Hi,

My wife and I came to your restaurant for the first time yesterday and had a great time!  The food was amazing and so was the beer selection.  I LOVED the gator piquant.  Just before we left, Paul took us out back to show us the outdoor stage and seating area, and we spent another half hour out there talking with him and sampling a couple of new beers.  Paul is a great host, and we enjoyed talking  with him about beer and spicy Indian and Cajun food.

Long story short, we can’t wait to come back for some live entertainment, and of course the upcoming beer tasting.  We’ll make sure to bring our friends next time.

Thanks again, and please add us to your mailing list.

Hi Paul and Rebecca,

My daughter in law and I was in your restaurant yesterday and Paul, talked to us about the flood you had and showed us pictures.

I inquired about the bands and he told us about Chubby Carrier, and his coming in November, and it sounded like it would be so much fun, especially with the dance lessons.  He gave us pamphlets and told us of your web site where we could register for emails and info on upcoming events.

I have been to New Orleans and Mississippi, many times and your place is like being there. I have been in your restaurant many times and a couple years ago was told about the bands but was unaware of the web site. I am looking forward to attending and am sure will l have a wonderful time.

 Thank you,

Carrol Johnson

Hi All,

As an Uncle of the bride, I attended the wedding reception on Saturday at your restaurant and I just would like to say that it was the best wedding reception that I have ever had the pleasure of attending.  Your restaurant provided outstanding Cajun food and excellent personal service!  Also, the bonus of having the great Cajun music in the pavilion in the rear made it an afternoon and evening of total enjoyment.  Many thanks to you and all your employees for making this such a great and memorable occasion for all, especially the bride and groom on their most special day.  I truly will treasure this experience and plan to make it a point to come back the next time I visit Florida as well as recommend it to all of my friends and family.  We are already thinking of maybe having a reunion there next year on their first anniversary.

Regards,

            Neil

Dear Paul and Rebecca:

Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality for our daughter's wedding dinner/party at your restaurant.  The food (as usual) was superb, the service was excellent and the wait people were very, very attentive.  Several of the guests were first timers and they could not say enough about
the food and service.  Paul, you really made us feel special with your attention and consideration of all of the group.

You could see that we enjoyed the music and dance also.  It was an incredible evening and made it a really special night to remember.

Doug and I plan on seeing you next week for dinner - I, of course, will probably have the Shrimp Creole, my favorite.  It is difficult to choose since everything that we have eaten there has been excellent.  Being from New Orleans I feel I can really enjoy some 'home cooking' at Cajun on The Bayou!!!!

Thanks again for a great job - the bride and groom were very happy also with everything and how well it went.  The bride actually did not get nervous, too much anyway.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth to what I am sure are dozens of compliments for your business.  I was there recently and had a great time and even better meal.....I already know I will be back next week since our son has asked that we celebrate his 25th birthday there.

I live in Land O Lakes and work in St. Petersburg.  I have been in the food business all of my life and my family owned and operated several very popular restaurants in the Tampa Bay area for over 40 years. (Sold them in 1980).  I also am a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (Class of 1977)  All of this to explain that I have been encouraged to write reviews for our community website in Land O Lakes....the following is a copy of what I wrote about your establishment:

"Laissez le bon temps roule'!"

If anyone out there is looking for authentic Louisiana Cajun food.....you only have to drive to St. Petersburg/Pinellas Park and find the CAJUN CAFE on the BAYOU. Man oh man I kid you not...if you go to this place and you leave hungry...then there is something wrong with you!

This is the real deal....they have just about everything Cajun you can want...even big delicious hunks of crawfish corn bread. The pork or crawfish boudin is so good your tongue will probably knock you out from licking your lips so hard.

The restaurant/bar is located just past the Wagon Wheel and Mustang Flea Market on the north side of Park. They are located on a little spit of water some might call a bayou..others call it a puddle....but from the road the place will fool you. Once you pull in and walk around you will see they are pretty big in size and they have to be because of all the crowds that show up for the bands and their annual Crawfish Festival (this weekend March 30th thru April 1st....see their website for more info)

The building is old, but solid....the tables and chairs a ramshackle collection of whatever but very clean. The staff is a lot of fun....but then if you got to serve such good, fun food all day to folks who know how to eat and appreciate cajun food and cold beer you would just have to enjoy your job.

The menu is huge and has everything from gator burgers, to fried okra, to boiled crawfish (when in season....hurry, the season ends around May) They have creoles and Etoufee's, Pork chops and soft shell crabs, frog legs and gumbos, crab cakes and jambalaya, court bouillons and red beans w/ rice.
Po' boys of every kind.....While I can't swear in court that I saw them prepare everything fresh and from scratch....I will tell you that IMO....based on the taste and freshness...it is.

The boiled crawfish I had on a recent visit was the best I have had in years...and I can usually eat 5 pounds by myself no problem. The corn was fresh and the potatoes had soaked up the boil seasons so much my nose got runny and my lips burned....gawd what a great feeling that is when eating food like this. The fried okra was hot, had a crisp battered shell and super flavorful

Even the Iced Tea tasted better there than in other places...and my server kept my glass full. They sell some really great beers and only one dessert....but the Whiskey Bread Pudding is definite don't miss item.

The only thing missing from the menu in my minds eye is a Crawfish Pie....when the mud bugs are out of season, I usually satisfy my crawfish desire with a big ol' slice of Crawfish Pie (I usually have to make my own)

Now this ain't fancy dining....some of the food is served on foam trays...some on regular plates. The servers are dressed casual and the place can get loud if you are sitting near one of their Zydeco or Cajun bands. But it is that very casualness that captures your heart and makes this such a fun place.

SO..... if you love Cajun...think eating ought to be fun.....want to have a great time with friends...then I suggest you make the drive to the CAJUN CAFE on the BAYOU. It will be one of those times you talk about for weeks. But be careful...one visit and you will be hooked

Thanks for holding the beerfest!

We had a great time and DEFINITELY plan to come back next year. We are avid beer lovers and LOVED having the opportunity to taste some good beer (not Bud, so sick of Bud products in Florida)

The setting was nice, the band good and your red beans and rice were good too.

Please keep it up! We hope the attendance keeps growing year after year and  you'll see us there each time.

By the way, we found out about this through the Shipyard Beer (Maine beer) email society newsletter.

Thanks for a good beer event!

Rebecca, Paul,

Thank You both for a memorable Saturday.  This was my first Crawfish Festival, but God willing, it will not be my last.  I've attached a few pictures from Saturday along with 1 short video.  In case you are wondering who I am, I've also included a picture of myself, the last picture.  As you might know, I have been informing friends and relatives in the Midwest and the North East that if they ever get down to Florida, one of their first stops has got to be the Cajun Cafe on the Bayou.  Now if I can only find an apartment in the area, I'd really be in a Florida Heaven.

Thank You again for a great Saturday!

Hi Paul & Rebecca,

Thank you so much for all the good times this weekend!  Everything was superb.  I am sending two pictures of "snake-wrangler" Ryan in the parking lot, under separate cover.  Saw the pictures on your web site - thanks for putting us on there too!
Be well and see you soon!

Just letting y'all know what you will be missing this weekend in the Tamp area while you are trying to keep warm in the Mid West and North East. Some of the Best Music this side of Heaven, GREAT food, Good dancing music, Great Atmosphere and Great People will be at the Cajun Cafe on the Bayou for their 9th annual Crawfish Festival.  Did I mention some of the Best Music this side of Heaven and GREAT Food?  Why even the weather will be great for most of the weekend with the temps being in the low to mid 80's and partially to mostly cloudy Friday and Saturday with Sunday calling for isolated thunderstorms.

I'll send some pictures and a short video or two Sunday or Monday just to rub it in.  For those who do not know me, I'm the guy under the lawnmower.

We're headed home to LA next weekend with our mouths watered  at the thought of fresh boiled crawfish at our family gathering. But because of Katrina, that's very hard to get in the New Orleans area. Really can't wait for the Festival now...see ya in a few weeks, dahlin.

Stopped in a few weeks ago for a quick taste of your Shrimp Creole, which I heard was the best this side of Heaven. Don't know about Heaven yet, unless they were talking about Louisiana, but I do know it was the best that I have had since the mid 60's. Forget about opening in CT or the Finger Lakes. We need you over in Lakeland first then maybe the New Jersey shore area before going further north. Will be back many more times. Lawn mower head

Hi, I must say that your restaurant was and has been my finest dining experience.  I grew up the youngest of eleven children and know when I taste good food.  Your food and the ambiance is as fine as you will ever find of your kind in the world.  Thank you for the great experience and the finest Corn Bread in the world.

Hi,

We visit FL for the month of March every year from the Upstate NY area.  During our stay we visit your place at least 4 or 5 times and bring all of our friends and relatives along with us.  I wish we had a place like yours up in the Finger Lakes area of NY - I'm sure that it would be a hit!  I'm wearing one of your T-shirts as I'm typing this message!  See you again before we leave (several times)!

Thanks for showing us around that night after you had turned off all the lights out back and introducing us to Zydeco!

Hope to see you soon,

Hi  My name is Bill Cundiff and am visiting from Fredericksburg Va.  We visit the area every year and always include several meals at the Cafe.  It's always the bright spot on the trip for me.  Nothing better than a cold beer, hot sun, Zydeco in background and a plate of crawfish followed by some gator nuggets.

I called my colleague to see if he wanted to eat Cajun tonight. Needless to say, it was superb. I hadn’t eaten sauce piquant in several years. I only have one complaint…NO COMMUNITY COFFEE??? How can you eat bread pudding without Community Coffee? What’s up with that? Anyway, keep up the good work. We enjoyed it immensely.

What a treat! I had the pleasure of dining at the Cajun Cafe On The Bayou last night and also had the pleasure of meeting the new owners, Paul & Rebecca. It did my heart good to know that Rebecca is the daughter of Joe Thibodaux, the founder. The recipes are still the same and the entire experience is... well, just that: Something you HAVE to experience. What a treat to have this great place right here in our back yard. I hope they enjoyed meeting me as much as I them, because I have a feeling they're going to be seeing a lot of me there. As to the web site, this too is a treat. I love the links and the background music. Especially "Iko Iko" playing in the background on this page. Bravo for the nice job in setting up the web site. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some leftovers to heat up... and I'll be back there later in the week to try out some of your other treats... THANKS & The best of luck to Paul & Rebecca!

It was such a joy entering your place of business Friday afternoon. I felt like I had returned home! I lived the first 38 years of my life in North and Mid-Louisiana, moving to Pensacola in 1989. I moved to Pinellas Park last summer to manage the Sonic Drive In on 66th Street N. Friday was the most comfortable day I've had in a year! Thank you...by the way the crawfish were wonderful. I'm just sorry I found you so late in the season. Raymona Reed

Love the food, anytime we have company from up north we always bring them to your place. We try to come at least once every 2 - 3 weeks anyway. You should think about adding a recipe page to your website. You don't have to give out your restaurant recipes, just authentic Cajun recipes.  Chuck Carlton

We visited in April, (we're from Baltimore),  and everything was great,  but the crawfish cornbread was out of this world!!-We even to some to go.  Laura

We have only been to visit 2 times but the food was outstanding!  My husband Kurt has grown up on Cajun food.  He attended LSU for the family tradition and this is the first authentic food we've had since we moved here.  Please email us with any upcoming events.  We would love to come back.    Nichole & Kurt Schroeder

Dear Joe Thibodaux & Rebecca, Just returned from your fantastic Festival. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! You all did a wonderful job.  My friend Karin Kratina from Gainesville, and I drove down in her motor home, and Joe, you made us feel so at home. It just reinforces my belief that Louisianans are the friendliest people in the nation.  After such a warm reception and such great dancing and music, you can be sure that we will be back again next year!  Thanks again, Jennifer Pritchett Melrose, Florida

Well ya did it again! Another great crawfish festival. Really enjoyed the music & your wonderful dance floor on beautiful cross bayou. It doesn't get any better than that. What a great gumbo contest. They really went all out. You did a great job handling the crowd, who by the way I thought were really cool this year. Randy & Nila
